How VoiceQSO Uses AI

Plain-language summary Last updated 1 May 2026
VoiceQSO uses AI to turn your recorded radio contacts into structured logbook entries. This page answers the questions we get most often about how that works, what we do with your data, and — importantly — what we don’t do with it. For the formal legal version, see the Privacy Policy.

The basics

What does VoiceQSO use AI for?

AI is the engine that listens to your recorded QSO audio and extracts the structured fields you would otherwise log by hand — callsigns, signal reports, names, locations, exchanges, and notes. Without AI, there is no app.

Do you train AI models on my recordings or my QSO data?

No. We do not use your audio, transcriptions, or logbook entries to train any AI model — not our own, and not the third-party providers we use. Your data is processed to give you a result, and that’s it.

Our AI providers operate under data-processing agreements that prohibit using customer content for model training.

So what do you do with my data?

Three things, and only three:

  • Run the service. Your audio is sent to our AI provider, transcribed, parsed into QSO fields, and returned to your logbook.
  • Quality control and result review. We may look at a small sample of recordings and the resulting transcriptions to check that extraction is accurate, catch failure modes (a callsign the model keeps mishearing, a contest exchange it doesn’t parse cleanly, etc.), and improve our prompts and heuristics.
  • Support. If you contact us about a specific QSO or session — “why did this come out wrong?”, “can you help me recover this log?” — we may need to look at the recording or the data tied to your account in order to help you.

Who can see my data

Will a human listen to my audio?

Not as part of normal operation — transcription and extraction are fully automated.

Humans on the VoiceQSO team may listen in two specific situations: (1) during quality-control review of a sampled recording, and (2) when you ask us for support on a specific session. In both cases, access is limited to the people who need it and is logged.

Is my data shared with third parties?

Your audio is sent to a third-party AI provider for transcription — that’s how the AI processing works. They process it on our behalf and do not retain or train on it. We do not sell your data, and we do not share your QSOs with anyone else.

If you opt in to QRZ.com logbook sync, your QSO fields are sent to QRZ — but that’s a feature you turn on yourself.

Where is my data stored?

Your account, logbook, and any retained audio are hosted on servers in the EU (Germany). Audio sent to the AI provider is processed and returned; we do not retain audio at the provider.

Control and accuracy

Are decisions about me made automatically by AI?

No. The AI produces a suggested log of your QSO, which you can review, edit, or delete. Nothing the AI outputs has legal or financial consequences for you, and we don’t use AI to make decisions about your account.

What if the AI gets a QSO wrong?

You can edit any field, delete the QSO, or delete the whole session. If a particular failure mode keeps happening to you, please tell us — that’s exactly the kind of feedback that drives our quality-control review.

Can I opt out of AI processing?

Not while using the app — AI is the service. If you don’t want your audio processed by AI, the right call is to not record sessions in VoiceQSO. You can delete your data, or your whole account, at any time.

How long do you keep my audio?

For as long as you have an account with us. We keep your recordings as part of the service so you can re-download them later — for example, if you reinstall the app or want a copy of an old QSO — and so support can help if something goes wrong with a session.

If you close your account, your audio is deleted within 30 days. If you want specific recordings deleted sooner, email privacy@voiceqso.com and we’ll take care of it. The Privacy Policy (section 7) is the authoritative source.
